The experience of working in an office has changed so much these past few years. Back then, people relished the idea of waking up bright and early in the morning to heading to the office and do some work. Working in an office felt more like a lifestyle upgrade than just simply building a career.
These days though, a lot of people drag their feet to the office because there are a lot of hurdles they wish they didn’t have to tackle. The daily commute is horrendous, office cubicles are too small, coworkers are hard to deal with, and some managers can’t avoid micro-managing.
So it’s the reason why some people prefer home-based jobs. Aside from not having to commute every day, there are so many other advantages to working at home. If you need more convincing to work at home, then read on and learn about the benefits of having a home-based job.
1. Your sked is lighter
The first benefit of working at home is that your schedule is a lot lighter. When you work in an office, you need to make time for several things aside from your actual work.
You need some time to prepare in the morning after you wake up. You also need time for your commute. You even need some time for your elevator trip. And when you’re already in the office, you need time to prepare your office desk, turn on the computer, check your e-mails, check your WhatsApp, and then start working. You probably used two hours for items not related to your daily tasks.
But if you work at home, you don’t have to do any of those things. If your work starts at 9 AM, all you need to do is wake up at 8:45, clear the fog in your head, make coffee, and then start working even before your shift starts. You can also eat your breakfast while you work because you don’t have a boss looking over your shoulder every minute.
2. No more office politics
Another benefit of working at home is that you don’t have to deal with annoying coworkers. Unless you invite some of your virtual coworkers to your bedroom, there’s no chance for any of your colleagues to rub you the wrong way.
And if that’s not enough, you also don’t have to deal with an overbearing boss. Most online jobs still have a manager of sorts to ensure that telecommuters are doing their jobs, but they rarely pop up on the screen hassling you if you’re done with your tasks.
Working at home is more peaceful because you no longer have to worry about other people talking behind your back. Also, you no longer have to worry if the office jerk or the office gossip is at the pantry because you have your whole kitchen to yourself.
3. No more office attire
It can be so liberating to wake up in the morning and start working right away even when you haven’t changed your clothes. When you stop worrying about your office attire, you can spend more time thinking about your work.
On top of that, you get to save more money because there’s no constant need to update your office attire. As for the money you used to spend on your office attire, you can now allot for other things, like that trip to the Riviera you’ve been yearning to take.
4. You profit more and save more
Finally, working at home is great because there are so many online jobs today. You can get work as a transcriptionist, an online marketing expert, and a call center representative.
These jobs pay well as long as you find the right company, which is quite easy. In addition to that, because you no longer have to spend on your commute, office clothes and lunch-outs, you’ll be able to save more cash. So if you think about it, there aren’t valid reasons why you shouldn’t work at home.
If you’re starting to make a list of the things you hate about working in an office, it only means that you need a lifestyle change. And the best change you can make for yourself is to start working at home.
